The youngest of three children born to an Irish mother and English father, Claire spent her childhood between Manchester, Leeds, and later Longwick, Buckinghamshire, where her father found a job as a salesman for Rank Xerox. Unfortunately, her parents divorced when she was only eight years old, then Claire went to Aylesbury High School, and after matriculation enrolled at Liverpool John Moores University, where she studied drama. She was then also a part of the Oxford School of Drama for one year, and finished her studies in 2007 before launching her acting career.

Claire lived in Peckham, London with five other friends from drama school, and to support her beginnings, Claire took several odd jobs, including working in supermarkets. Luckily, Claire launched her career by debuting in an episode of the TV fantasy drama series “Being Human” in 2008, and the same year also made an appearance in the TV drama series “Doctors”, while then securing her first recurring role as Amy Dorrit in the TV mini-series “Little Dorrit”, which not only stablished her net worth, but also helped her gain highly-needed experience.

In 2011, Claire played Anna in the action fantasy “Season of the Witch”, starring next to Nicolas Cage, and Ron Perlman, while later the same year she starred in the drama film “Wreckers” with Benedict Cumberbatch and Shaun Evans, further increasing her net worth. From there, Claire continued with lead roles in several successful projections, including the TV mini-series “White Heat” (2012), while in 2016 she portrayed Queen Elizabeth II in the TV historical drama series “The Crown”, which earned her a number of nominations and awards, including a Golden Globe Award in the category Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series- Drama, and a Primetime Emmy Award nomination in the category Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series. Being a main cast member of the series increased her net worth to a large degree, but also her popularity, which led to the lead role in the romantic drama film “Breathe”, a biopic about Robin and Diana Cavendish who managed to overcome devastating disease. The film was also a directing debut for Andy Serkis, and alongside Claire, the lead male role was given to Academy Award-nominated actor Andrew Garfield.

The particular role launched her further into the acting world, and she is now working on several films in which she will be the main star, “The Girl in the Spider’s Web”, a crime drama thriller, and “First Man”, which is a biopic about Neil Armstrong, the first man on the moon. Both films are set for release later this year.

When it comes to her personal life, Claire has been married to actor Stephen Campbell Moore since 2014; the couple has a child together.

# Quote
1 On her perception of the royal family after starring in The Crown (2016): I wouldn’t say it changed, but it definitely deepened it, and gave it a human slant that I’d never considered before. I thought she was just the Queen and he was Prince Philip, and that was just who they were, without thinking about them as a mother or a father or daughter. So, it’s been really interesting to try and understand them as human beings. And when you see what they’ve been through, it’s relatively easy, to be honest. I have a huge amount of respect and understanding for them.
2 I hate having to pose for photos. It’s just so embarrassing. Everyone is expecting you to know what to do because you’re an actor, but I haven’t a clue.
3 I love home, any home really – my mum’s, and of course my own. I love eating food there and chilling in bed with a cup of tea.
4 I’ve worked in supermarkets, put tags in baseball caps and provided security during Wimbledon, but I never thought acting would be something I’d be any good at, or make a living from.
5 Growing up, I was obsessed with Leonardo DiCaprio.
6 I’m lucky I have a fast metabolism… my whole family does… everyone’s got a lot of nervous energy so we burn it off.
7 If I was working nine to five, acting would be my hobby… I always feel like maybe I should do an Open University degree. But I’m never going to.
8 I wouldn’t have been able to go to drama school when I was 19. I don’t think I was even conscious of life… I was like a zombie. But when I finished uni’ I just realized… just go and do it, stop being a knob.
9 I’ve seen Pride and Prejudice (1995) about 4,000 times. I’m not joking: I know every single line.
10 I am always so envious of people who do whatever they want.
11 [about her “Macbeth” co-star, James McAvoy] The funny thing is you would never ever ever think the man is this movie star. He’s just so down to earth. He could turn round to me and go “Your accent is shocking!” I have to remind myself to actually stop looking at him.
12 When I got the audition for “Macbeth”, it’s awful to say it but I can see what leads her to do what she does. Her husband’s destiny has been proclaimed and she says “You’ve got to meet it.” Which women do all the time.
