Brianna J Youtuber Found Dead

Brianna Ghey tragically died aged 16 on Saturday, February 11, after being found with severe injuries in a Cheshire park by police.

Within a week a boy and a girl, both 15, were arrested by police before being charged with murder.

One of the two pled not guilty in June at a case management hearing ahead of the November trial, while the other submitted no plea.

Reporting restrictions prevent the identification of which of the defendants entered the plea, with neither being able to be named because of their age.

February 11

Emergency services including Cheshire Police were called to Culcheth Linear Park in Warrington, Cheshire, at 3.13pm.

Brianna’s body was discovered on a path having been stabbed to death, and was pronounced dead at the scene, although on the day of her discovery she was not named.

Detective Chief Inspector Adam Waller said: ‘We are following numerous lines of enquiry to establish what led to the victim’s death, and local residents will see an increased presence of police officers in the area while we investigate this incident.’

February 12

Police named Brianna as the victim from the previous day, and arrested a boy and a girl, both 15, on suspicion of Briana’s murder in what they believed to be a ‘targeted attack.’

However, they added that they did not believe it was a ‘hate crime’ or related to the fact Brianna was transgender.

Tributes also began pouring in from her friends.

‘Rest in peace, you deserved the world, this is so devastating for everyone,’ one mourner wrote.

‘Rest in peace darling,’ another tribute said. ‘Forever a beauty and forever in our hearts nothing will ever change that.

‘I’m just proud of you for consistently keeping on, you’re so strong, thank you for being with us and thank you for being so transparent with us…’

February 13

A fundraiser was set up to support funeral costs for Brianna’s family, with an initial target of £4,216, but this since exceeded £100,000.

Brianna’s heartbroken family paid their tribute the same day.

It read: ‘Brianna was a much-loved daughter, granddaughter, and baby sister.

‘She was a larger-than-life character who would leave a lasting impression on all that met her. Brianna was beautiful, witty and hilarious. Brianna was strong, fearless and one of a kind.

‘The loss of her young life has left a massive hole in our family, and we know that the teachers and her friends who were involved in her life will feel the same.’

Brianna lived with her mother, who was reported to have split from the teen’s father, in a modern terraced house in Warrington.

Brianna’s friends also continued to speak on her death alleging she had been ‘bullied and gang beaten’ at school for several years over the ‘simple reason of being trans.’

February 14

Cheshire police announced that they now were looking into the possibility of Brianna’s murder being a hate crime.

That evening, a series of vigils took place in Warrington – organised by the girl’s friends – and Bristol in memory of the teenager.

Members and allies of the LGBTQ+ community held pride and transgender flags and signs such as ‘Rest in Power’ and ‘Rest in Love’.

February 15

The 15-year-old suspects appear at Chester Magistrates’ Court for the first time, to be charged with Brianna’s murder.

The pair spoke only to confirm their names, not entering any pleas, with it also announced that they would later appear in Liverpool Crown Court.

Warrington Town Hall flew the trans flag at half-mast, ahead of a second vigil in the town.

More vigils were held across the country, including in London outside the Department of Education, as well as in Manchester, Belfast, and Brighton.

Those in London were heard chanting ‘f**k’ Keir Starmer,’ amid anger from the trans community over the Labour leader’s ‘silence’ following Brianna’s death.

February 16

The boy and girl charged with murder appeared via video at Liverpool Crown Court, again to just confirm their names.

The two were remanded in youth detention accommodation until a pre-trial preparation hearing on 2 May 2023.

February 17

LGBTQ-themed radio station, Gaydio, collaborated with other LGBTQ stations in the UK to broadcast a minute’s silence at 11.00 am.

Thousands gathered at a vigil on the green where emergency services were called to the previous weekend.

Many mourners wore ‘rest in power Brianna Ghey’ t-shirts with picture of her on the front. Crowds also sang Over The Rainbow.

March 8

An inquest heard that members of the public found Brianna ‘unresponsive’ in the park before she was identified by her mother.

March 15

Grieving friends and family paid their final respects at Brianna’s funeral, hailing her as a ‘true one-off.’

Scores of tearful mourners arrived for the service.

May 26

A new trial date was set for the two accused of Brianna’s murder, with it pushed back from June 10 to November 27 – expected to last three weeks.

July 20

One of the defendants entered a not guilty plea at a case management hearing at Minshull Street Crown Court in Manchester ahead of November’s trial, with the other still not entering a plea.

Mrs Justice Yip told the court: ‘It’s a case in which I know emotions are likely to run high, that’s very understandable. There has been a lot of publicity about it already.

‘We’re going to make sure that this case proceeds in a calm manner in court in a way that is going to be entirely fair to everybody.’
