Camerimage: ‘A River Runs Through It’ DP Philippe Rousselot to Receive Lifetime Achievement Award

French cinematographer Philippe Rousselot, who won an Oscar for Robert Redford’s A River Runs Through It, will receive a Lifetime Achievement Award at respected cinematography festival Camerimage, which will be held in Torun, Poland, and virtually from Nov. 14-21.

The versatile DP has worked with directors including Robert Redford, Tim Burton, Guy Ritchie, Stephen Frears, Patrice Chéreau, Neil Jordan, Shane Black, Miloš Forman, David Yates, Denzel Washington and Jean-Jacques Annaud.

In addition to his Oscar for A River Runs Through It, Rousselot received Academy Award nominations for his lensing of John Boorman’s Hope and Glory and Philip Kaufman’s Henry & June.

A fan of the work of filmmakers including Federico Fellini, Fritz Lang and Ingmar Bergman, he studied at l’École Louis Lumière and assisted Oscar winning DP Néstor Almendros (Days of Heaven).

He went on to earn a long list of cinematographer credits on films including Stephen Frears’ Dangerous Liaisons, Neil Jordan’s Interview With the Vampire: The Vampire Chronicles and Miloš Forman’s The People vs. Larry Flynt.

He shot several films for Tim Burton, including Big Fish and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory; teamed with Guy Ritchie on Sherlock Holmes and Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows; and collaborated with David Yates on Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and its sequel, The Crimes of Grindelwald.

This year marks the 28th edition of Camerimage.
